There is no issue more pressing as climate change all over the world today. It is being discussed in-depth at apex global forums and countries all over. All nations are attempting to combat this from a micro to a macro level. Towards this cause, bamboo and cane have been identified as strategic resources for countries to address the adverse affect of climate change.
Having grown up amidst pristine greenery of India’s North-east, one of the bio-diversity hotspots of the world, we always harboured a natural inclination towards innovation with bamboo and cane. But, somehow, world-class innovations were not coming to fruition for several reasons.
Our company, Ivantage Craft Private Limited was registered on 25th August, 2015 and subsequently we began setting up our manufacturing unit at Dolabari Industrial Area, Tezpur,Sonitpur, Assam. Our company received startup recognition in December 2016 under the flagship ‘Startup India’ initiative of Prime Minister Modi. Subsequently, we have set many benchmarks for ourselves that work as our guiding principles to deliver more than what we promise to our discerning customers.
Our first registered brand, ‘Boocane’ (fusion of bamboo and cane) was born two years ago out of our passion, compassion and commitment. We use the most versatile, eco-friendly and highlyrenewable bamboo and cane found abundantly in our beautiful region of India to address the following concerns.
a) Climate change
b) Furniture off-gassing causing deadly diseases
c) Indoor dust pollution through furniture
Bamboo and cane have already been identified as strategic resources for countries to address the adverse affect of climate change at the apex global forums on climate change and discussed in-depth.
We realized that bamboo and cane were not simply sufficient to manufacture eco-friendly products. The other ingredients used in the manufacturing process also needed to be environment-friendly. We needed better technology to prove that bamboo and cane could be superior alternatives to wood, steel and plastic to manufacture premium quality products with globally competitive designs and finesse. We developed processes that will retain the eco-friendly characteristics of bamboo and cane. Water based adhesive, stains, polish and topcoats,conforming to European standard norms have been sourced to effectively address the issue of furniture off-gassing.
In order to ensure least possible dust accumulation in furniture products, we have worked on elegant, contemporary and minimalist designs for each of our products. We have completely done away with heat bending of cane product components and instead introduced steam bending to retain strength of materials as well as to maintain a clean look for the final product. Unlike conventional products, our cane products are also completely devoid of iron nails and burn marks. Another value addition that we have introduces is woolen padding for furniture legs for floor protection making our products plastic free.
We have also sourced 100% organic latex cushion foams and bamboo fabric for furniture upholstery which are provided on demand from customers. We also strongly believe that in order to deliver what we promise to our valued customers, we must take good care of our employees as well; we need to focus on a conducive work environment, enable skill up-gradation and maintain a favourable pay structure to keep them motivated and happy.
The Boocane journey has begun and we are looking forward to contributing to a better future forour planet’s climate.
